PILTON 'STARS IN YOUR EYES' RAISES £2,100 FOR CHARITY
The sixth Pilton 'Stars in Your Eyes' rocked a packed Pilton Church Hall with a fantastic range of music styles on the evening of 5th June 2010. Produced by Odd Couple Productions – aka Helen Clark-Hayton and Ced Piper - to raise money for charities, this year's challenge featured thirteen wannabe stars.
The thirteen singers were Loki Karczmarz as Mika, Bev Neighbour as Shirley Bassey, Darren Maidment as Nic Cester (of JET), Kris Langmead and Gary Marshall as The Blues Brothers, Kevin Hayton as David Bowie, Caroline Cassinelli as Susan Boyle, Bryn Rees, Steve Laramy (wearing the union jack trunks on the splash page), Helen Jones and Jo Tibbles as Bucks Fizz, Matthew Dearle as Topol, Angus Basil as Kirsty MacColl, Hannah Rogers as Shingai Shoniwa, Patrick Montague as Stevie Wonder, Chris Brent as Tony Hadley (of Spandau Ballet) and Angie Luxton as Dusty Springfield. This poster was produced to celebrate the thirteen acts and their success in raising £2,100 to be shared by Pilton Festival, the newly formed Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club and Pilton Church Hall.
The audience of 120 – supporters, families and sponsors – was treated to an extravaganza of costume, music and performance. After the audience vote, the winner was declared as Angie Luxton, who gave a brilliant rendition of 'Son of a Preacher Man'. Angie has taken part in Stars in Your Eyes every year and this is the first time she has won. Second was Caroline Cassinelli who sang 'I Dreamed a Dream' from 'Les Miserables', the song which caused such a stir when sung by Susan Boyle in Britain's Got Talent in April last year. Third was Matthew Dearle who donned a perfect beard to be Topol and sing 'If I were a Rich Man' from the musical 'Fiddler on the Roof'.
Apparently we all have it in us to be a star, even for only a few minutes. As the evening's programme had it “Enjoy the show and next time, who knows, you might even star yourself”. We certainly enjoyed the show although we are not sure about starring ourselves. If you can get a ticket for 2011, take it!
